tools

The project is proceeding on the basis of a reasonably simple set of tools. This is a strategic move within the overall methodology: an excess of choice works against creativity.

I will use a notepad and pencil to record fragments of writing. To do this digitally, I will use an e-ink tablet (see below).

I use an iPhone or an actual camera to capture and make images.

I use a high-resolution Epson V370 Photo scanner to capture the hand notes and sketches. That’s about it.

Hemingwrite 2

This is an e-ink screened, so-called ‘smart’ typewriter by the crowd-funded startup Freewrite. Designed for distraction free writing: no apps, just syncing on wifi. I liked the smaller and more portable Freewrite Traveller enough to invest in this limited edition Hemingwrite 2, which is fashioned from hand-polished aluminium. This model has been released in conjunction with the estate of Ernest Hemingway. Arrived in January 2022.

Supernote A5X

This is an e-ink tablet. I use it for writing along with my paper notebooks. I also have a Remarkable 2, but the Supernote is smaller (A5 rather than A4+) so I find myself carrying it more often. Some of the seeds will be exports from the Supernote, while others will be hand notes in pencil from the Grovemade notebook shown below, scanned into images.
